The other persons are senior officers of the Government Printing Office. It is supported by the British Lion and the Australian Kangaroo and was formally adopted in The motto translates to “Newly risen, how brightly you shine”. Gullick has left explanatory notes about the NSW coat of arms but has not explained why the lion looks like Chewbaca or why it is poking out its tongue. On a white background, it became the badge of NSW in , representing the naval tradition of Captain Cook and the early colonial Governors, who were all naval commanders. The lion running forward whilst looking at the viewer is known as a lion passant guardant. It is taken from the Arms of England which has 3 such lions on a red field. That group of stars is visible only in the Southern hemisphere and is synonymous with Australia. Used extensively by mariners for navigation, the Southern Cross featured in most earlier, locally designed suggested coats of arms. Those earlier versions usually showed the stars on a white cross on a blue background.

Overview Abstract The ability to position landscapes in a context of time and space is a particular goal of Quaternary science research. The lack of context for dating samples published previously for MacCauley’s Beach, an important site for the reconstruction of Australian sea levels, warranted a re-evaluation of both the site stratigraphy and chronology. In this study, we combined optically stimulated luminescence OSL dating of sedimentary quartz grains and soil micromorphology of the same samples to improve our understanding of the depositional history and chronology of the sediments.
This combination allowed the contextualization of samples not only in time and space, but also in terms of their depositional histories. The latter is important in OSL dating, where pre-, syn- and post-depositional processes can all influence the accuracy and precision of the final age estimates. The sediment profile at MacCauley’s Beach is made up of three major units.
The basal mottled mud layer has undergone extensive pedogenesis since deposition, and only a minimum age of The overlying grey mud, with OSL ages from the bottom and top of the unit of This unit correspond to the onset of the mid-Holocene sea-level high stand for this region. The overlying sand layer was first deposited at 7. Not only does the chronology presented constrain the timing of deposition and the extent of post-depositional processes at MacCauley’s Beach, but the methodological approach used here can be applied to any site to aid in the interpretation of formation processes and assess their influence on OSL age determination.

Thomas, who appeared visibly shaken in footage he shared on social media, said he wanted to spread a “positive message” after being exposed to the hate crime due to his sexuality. South Wales Police has now confirmed that a local year-old boy has been dealt with “by way of restorative justice” after the incident, which happened at around 9pm on The Hayes on Saturday. John Wood pioneered farming in the Grenfell area in In December the Gold Commissioner, John Granville Grenfell, was mortally wounded by bushrangers when he refused to stop the stagecoach carrying gold. Out of respect for his heroism, on 1st January the miners renamed the town as Grenfell. It proved the best mine on the fields and produced sixty thousand pounds of gold in the first three years. At the end of the original five year lease the claim was sold and a public company was floated to take it over.
This site was eventually worked to a depth of feet, the deepest of all mines in the Grenfell goldfields. The Grenfell goldfields were the richest gold mining fields in NSW during However, as the easily worked reefs were soon depleted, the miners, lacking capital for deep-mining, moved away. Wheat was first grown in the district in , and with the decline of the mining industry, the surrounding lands reverted to agricultural development.

Experiences count for an awful lot, too — and luckily, Sydney and surrounding New South Wales have plenty of genuinely memorable ones. Getty … Or climbing to the top of it Since it opened 20 years ago, the BridgeClimb Sydney has become an institution. Justifiably so — the day or night-time walk to the top of the Sydney Harbour Bridge, clipped to a rail for safety, is a hugely enjoyable adventure. And the views from high above the harbour are simply extraordinary.
That means great photo and feeding ops with the likes of koalas, kangaroos and wombats. A tasting tour of the cellar doors is a great way of combining the famous brands with new finds and gourmet treats. Austravel sells a handy six-day self-drive trip from Sydney that combines the two. Dolphin kayaking in Byron Bay Port Stephens also has year-round dolphin-watching cruises, but to get really close to Flipper, the best way is in a kayak.
The kayaking tours from Byron Bay in the far north of New South Wales are regularly interrupted by curious dolphins.

In New South Wales as a whole, HIV diagnoses in the last year fell by a third in the year after the trial was started compared to the previous year. They fell by half in people aged over 35 and in people born in Australia. The figures presented by Grulich supplement a report issued by the New South Wales health department in August last year , which also announced significant drops in HIV infection.
This report attributes the drops not only to the PrEP study but also to a near-doubling in the number of tests taken by gay men after the start of the study. The original intention, based upon calculations of the number of people at high risk of HIV infection in the state, was to enrol people in the trial. This was in fact achieved in the first eight months of the trial.
